What it is
TRACE Data Status Passport in one paragraph.
TRACE is a portable, versioned record of the type and lineage of an artefact, its relation to people, the relevant actors and legal perspective, its circulation controls, and the evidence and events governing a data-status claim.
Intended users. Data holders, independent recipients, research consortia, data-space operators, model registries, procurement teams, auditors and regulators.
Important limitation. TRACE records and communicates a status claim. It does not certify its own accuracy, replace the underlying assessment or make a legal determination.
Method architecture
What the method is intended to record.
The structure makes the claim inspectable. Each field exposes an assumption or dependency that a bare label normally conceals.
Relation to persons
Explains the connection by content, purpose and effect, including whether source-specific inference or treatment remains possible.
Actors, roles and applicable perspective
Identifies holders, source controllers, processors, independent recipients, authorised users and the perspective governing the assessment.
Circulation and controls
States whether the artefact is public, exportable, API-mediated, confined to a trusted environment or output-only, together with access and onward-transfer controls.
Evidence, expiry and events
Records the tests, assessor, date, result, known auxiliary information, review date and events requiring reassessment.

The documentation stack

The baseline supplies the legal test. The AUIA records the full evidence and decision. TRACE carries the approved, bounded summary with the defined artefact. Review dates and material events can renew, narrow, suspend or revoke reliance.
